A couple of events to look out for.. First we have the showing of the NWA Reunion which will air tonight [Monday March 27] on the USA network program 'Farmclub'. After checking with folks who were at the taping two weeks ago, the energy put forth by NWA was incredible and historic. Hopefully all the excitement come across on the screen. On a side note, if Ice Cube's SF performance is any indication of what NWA can do, then you're in for a treat. Cube absolutely, 100% threw down and wrecked shop this past Friday at the Warfield. It was one of the best Hip Hop shows I had seen in a long time.

He started off the set with 'Natural Born Killers' and ended it with 'Put Your back Into It'. he did a number of his old songs including, 'Nigga You Love To Hate', 'Steady Mobbing' and a few others that escape my mind. He also got busy with his cohorts, Mack 10 and WC of the Westside Connection. The crowd was definitely feeling them. The good news is that in addition to the off the hook performance, there were no incidents. The crowd inside the Warfield was enthusiastic and generous with their love. There was one women who help start off the set by standing on some kids shoulders and baring her breasts. Some one else threw their Ice Cube jacket on stage, while some one else attempted to body surf up to the stage. Cube was being shown much love. The highlight of the night was when local Bay Area rappers E-40, Ant Banks and JT The Bigga Figga joined Cube on stage when he did the song 'We be Clubbing'. The crowd went nuts especially when everyone started 'popping their collars'. For those who don't know, that's a Bay Area trademark gesture symbolizing ultimate success.

There were no incidents outside the venue. This was due in part to the more then 50 police officers who descended on downtown in riot gear. They shut down all the surrounding streets and sent a clear message-No loitering, no 'doughnuts' [driving recklessly], no milling around trying to get phone numbers. Get in your car and go home. Surprisingly, many of the people didn't seem to mind the excessive police presence. It was a bit overboard, but I got the sense that people were relieved that there was no trouble and there would be no trouble. The Cash Money fiasco which went down earlier this year was still fresh on everyone's mind.

After the show I caught up with Cube and asked him about his next movie. He was supposably working on a movie called 'Stoops' which is essentially an East Coast version of Fridays. However, in our brief exchange, he noted that the project had been pushed back and he' set to come through with another venture. He was pretty excited about it, but wouldn't give up the 4-1-1. Hence we'll have to wait to find out.
